Rockdale Police work two accidents during week, one with fatality

Accidents • Ofc. Wall responded to Josie Street for a two-vehicle accident with no injuries at 6:07 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21. • Ofc, Davis responded to the 700 block of West US 79 for a two-vehicle accident with injuries and a fatality at 9:57 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23.

FIRE CALLS

Responded to: • The 200 block of Allday for a carbon monoxide alarm at 12:34 a.m. Dec. 29. • The 100 block of Champions Drive for a lift assist at 7:16 p.m. Dec. 23. • The 100 block of Cordova Drive for a small vehicle on fire in the headlight at 7:50 p.m. Saturday.

The Tonkawa, early citizens of Central Texas

The Tonkawa Tribes were among the earliest people living on the land that we now call Central Texas. This Native American Tribe once called an area from Hillsboro to San Antonio their territory.

2023 Christmas Lighting contest winners

The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Christmas Lighting contest was held on Sunday night and the winners were announced this week. On the residential side of the contest Best Overall Lights went to Mark and Karen Muston at 217 Bowser.

QUICK LOOK

Perry & Perry Builders will be doing a test lift of The 1895’s Bell Tower on Friday, Dec. 22. During the test, the bell tower’s spiral staircase will be inserted from below and welded into place, while a final weight of the bell tower will be obtained.

ORGANIZATIONS

Rockdale Rotary Club meets the first, third and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department from noon to 1 p.m. Lunch is provided. Rockdale Noon Lions Club also meets at RVFD on the first and third Wednesday of each month with lunch provided.

Milano Christmas break begins

Mi l a no s t udent s will be out for the Christmas Break Dec. 22 through Jan. 8. Students return on the Jan. 9. Our basketball athletes will continue to have practice and games over the holiday break. Check the website for updated schedules.

LOOKING FOR INFORMATION

Hi. I’m Betsy. I lost my husband of 52 years, Cliff Dungan, to asbestos. He died from mesothelioma. He worked for Brown and Root at the Sandow Power Plant in Rockdale, Tx, from 74-75, then again from 78-81. Cliff operated a crane and was a boiler maker.

2023 Milam County Tree of Angels

Last week, our office held our annual Tree of Angels event here in Milam County. This is an event we hold every year in memory and support of people and families who have suffered from violent crime.
