School supplies

Parents and students waiting for the doors to open at the VFW for their annual school supply giveaway. The VFW Auxiliary stuffed backpacks with supplies for over 525 kids going to Rockdale schools. The supply pickup started at 9 a.m. Saturday.

BRONCO TIME

About 40 Ford Bronco enthusiasts gathered at the East Bell Taphouse on Saturday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. to show off their cars and talk about them.

RYLA Camp

Zoe Clore and Sam Battles, Milano High School students were selected to attend RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award) Camp. The RYLA program is an intensive training experience for incoming juniors and seniors. This is a co-ed weeklong camp held at Peaceable Kingdom in Killeen, TX July 9-14.

CHURCH NEWS

David Hankins is the new pastor at Murray Street Church of Christ. Hankins comes most recently from Lubbock but has also preached in Llano and Needville, just southwest of Houston.

Measuring our faith

How do we measure our faith? What’s our metric? How do we know how we’re doing as Christians? We used to celebrate people’s attendance. We would bring them in front of the church and give them a pin.

Heart disease classes being held through Aug. 30th

The American Academy of Crisis Counseling in Rockdale is holding sessions for adults called “Reduce Risks of Heart Disease by Controlling Blood Pressure,” which are being conducted by Debbie McNair, PhD. Classes are held 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Aug. 30.
