July 4 to have music, vendors, fireworks

The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce with the support of area businesses will hold the Milam County Fireworks Celebration on Sunday at Fair Park beginning at 6 p.m. Admission is free and there will be food vendors, games and patriotic gifts for the kids.

Railroad Museum sets dates for Jr. Engineers The Milam County Railroad Museum is setting aside four Saturday mornings for Junior Engineers. Beginning July 10, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to noon for Junior Engineers ages 9 – 17 to enjoy sessions in model railroad building.

Rockdale Volunteer Department firefighters were called to the Shady Grove RV Park on Sunday and found a travel trailer already almost consumed in flames. Fire Chief Herbie Vaughan said the volunteers spent about an hour and a half extinguishing the blaze that started a little after 4 p.m.

A 31-year-old Leander woman was arrested June 22 at 6:52 p.m. by Sgt. Michael Hubnik on a Rockdale warrant for theft less than $2,500 with two or more previous convictions. A Rockdale man, 39, was arrested Friday at 9:10 p.m.

The Texas Department of Transportation has finished work on the new bridge at FM 908 crossing over Brushy Creek northwest of Rockdale. The department has been working on the bridge site since last winter. The work involved tearing down the old bridge and clearing the site.
