Holly named new city manager Monday

Rockdale has a new city manager, but it’s a most familiar face. Barbara Holly, who has been serving as the city’s Development Services Director for just over a year, was promoted to city manager in a unanimous vote of the Rockdale City Council during a telephonic meeting originating at City Hall.

Monday deadline for runoff registration

Monday is the deadline to register to vote in the July 14 primary runoffs in Texas. Milam County does have one more choice to make, left over from the March 3 Republican Primary, way back in the “Pre-COVID Era.” Incumbent Pct.

An aging mobile home park near the east city limits of Rockdale has received a name change and a major upgrade.

Crossroads bible study slated for June 14

Gambling raid nets charges

The Milam County Sheriff’s Department, along with Cameron police raided what was termed an “illegal gaming room” at the Milam Plaza Shopping Center in Cameraon on Friday. Sheriff Chris White said authorities seized numerous gambling machines and over $9,000 in cash. One arrest was made.

The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department recently received a gift basket from Rockdale Walmart, part of the store’s community appreciation work. RVFD Lt. John Villarreal accepted the gift at Walmart. It was presented by Melissa Dovalina (R), local store manager, and Walmart associate Terrace Mitchell.

Seven arrests during week for Rockdale police

Rockdale Police made seven felony arrests during the past week as follows: • Gina Marie Cavazos, 49, Rockdale, possession of controlled substance (less than one gram), in custody on $5,000 bond.
