Judge recovering from health issue

District Judge John Youngblood is recovering from a recent health setback. Milam County Judge Steve Young announced during Commissioners Court Monday that the Youngblood family said he is making good progress and recovering.

Fire calls listed for area volunteers

Fire calls dispatched from the Rockdale Police Station during the past week included the following: • 1:06 a.m. April 21, vehicle smoking in driveway in 400 block of Hickory, Rockdale VFD. • 7:26 a.m. Saturday, Milano VFD dispatched to Texas 36 railroad overpass for 18-wheeler stuck under bridge.

Commissioners okay zones, tax abatements

CAMERON—Milam County commissioners, meeting Monday in another teleconferencing session, okayed several tax abatements and reinvestment zones to assist two major business ventures now underway.

Repo incident on Saturday nets warrant

Rockdale Police have issued an arrest warrant in connection with an incident in which they said a man trying to repossess a trailer was beaten on the face and arms with a fireplace implement. Lt.

NEW DIRECTOR

Dana McClaren (right) is the newest board member of the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District. She represents agriculture on the 10-member board, which includes Milam and Burleson County members. McClaren, a Milam County resident, replaces Durwood Tucker.

Aggravated sexual assault charged

A 52-year-old Thorndale man was arrested last week by the Milam County Sheriff’s Department and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. Harlan Wayne Sekaquaptewa was released after posting $50,000 bond.

Troopers called to area accidents

Department of Public Safety state trooper were called to several traffic accidents on area roads during the past week. A two vehicle collision was reported at 8:37 p.m. April 22 on US 79 east of County Road 346.

AA/NA meetings set to resume

Calvary Baptist Church on the Rock is holding in-person meetings again every Thursday at 7 p.m. The church is located at 1443 South FM 487. They are abiding by social distancing rules and have Plexiglass shields in place. Participants are asked to wear a mask.

Getting to a ‘new normal’?

It looks like things may start opening up and a “new normal” established with announcements and plans laid out by state and local government officials earlier this week. We are still passing the “stay home” time with fun family activities, especially baking.
