Talk about “making a difference.” A better face mask to help block COVID-19 transmission has been developed for use in a San Antonio health care system and its creator is a 1982 graduate of Rockdale High School. Tommye (Cashaw) Austin is chief executive nurse at University Health.

State parks reopen for day-use only

AUSTIN—Texas State Parks reopened for day-use only on Monday as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s effort to begin reopening the state of Texas.

Country club open for business

Gov. Greg Abbott announced initial steps to reopen the Texas economy during the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday, which included opening public golf courses.

School year over, events canceled

I hope this week finds everyone hanging in there and staying strong through these unprecedented times. It was announced last week that school facilities are to be closed the remainder of the academic year. All sports and other extra-curricular activities are canceled as well.

TEAMING UP TO FEED ROCKDALE—New Jerusalem Interdenominational Church has donated money to Sho’ Nuff Soul Food Diner to give away 100 meals to the people of Rockdale. The food will be given away at 11 a.m. Friday on a first come, first served basis. One plate per customer.

13TH MILAM COVID-19 CASE REPORTED

Milam County recorded its 13th case of COVID-19 Monday night. County Judge Steve Young said the person lives in, but does not work in, the county. Earlier in the day the county logged its first death from the virus.

FIRST MILAM DEATH FROM COVID-19

Milam County is now on the list of Texas counties reporting a death from the COVID-19 pandemic. County Judge Steve Young told The Reporter just after 10 a.m. Monday a woman "under 50" has died at a Temple hospital.
