Troopers called to area accidents

Milam County State Troopers were called to other area accidents besides the two-fatality crash last Wednesday. (Story, page 1A.) Trooper Broderick Sims said a vehicle driven by Jennifer Merkle, 46, of Aransas Pass struck a herd of hogs at 6:18 p.m. Friday on US 70, .1-mile west of County Road 320.

Four arrested during local raid Tuesday

The Milam County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Bastrop Sheriff’s Office raided a location in the 400 block of Cypress Trail Loop just west of the Rockdale city limits Tuesday afternoon, according to Sheriff Chris White.

No accidents inside city limits third straight week

Chalk in up to Shelter-In-Place. For the third consecutive week-long reporting period there were no motor vehicle accidents reported to Rockdale police within the city limits.

A DARK DAY

A brief-but-intense thunderstorm blew through Rockdale and South Milam County about 3:15 p.m. Thursday. Here, city crews work on flash flooded Meadow Drive as the system which turned day into night departed to the southeast. Multiple trees and limbs were reported down in the area. At 3:21 p.m.

Fundraiser winners announced

FREE SENIOR MEALS

Volunteer Greg Barber picks up frozen meals for delivery to senior citizens from Carolyn Cooper, director of the Rockdale Senior Citizens Center. More will be available next week, probably Wednesday and Thursday, April 22-23, Cooper said.

RISD issues end-of-term guidelines

If Rockdale ISD students don’t return to class for the final six week of the school term—as now seems increasingly likely—the district has prepared updated grading guidelines. According to Supt. Dr.
