Here is the jail log for July 10-16 from the Milam County Sheriff’s Department. Jail logs list all persons charged with offenses through the county jail docket. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

Sales tax: Better news for Rockdale

A little good news for Rockdale and the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) in the monthly sales tax checks disbursed last week by the state. Even though their year-to-date totals remain down slightly from 2018, both registered increases in the July checks compared to July of last year.

Brooks book signing set

Gause Baptist youth are home from church camp and report having a great time. Bryce and Natalie Rasco and family, James and Sherri Rasco and family spent Sunday afternoon visiting with Wanda and Al Coats. Gause Baptist Church will have Vacation Bible School July 30-Aug. 2 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

10-day closing set

One of Milam County’s busiest highways is set to close at an intersection for about 10 days beginning Friday. It’s at the US 190/79-Texas 36 corner just north of the Union Pacific Railroad overpass in Milano.

Stricken sheriff eyes return to Milam as fund drive starts

The news is mostly good this week as Milam County Sheriff David Greene continues to recuperate in a Portland, Oregon, hospital from a heart attack that nearly claimed his life. Chief Deputy Sheriff Chris White said the next goal is to return the sheriff to Milam County to continue his recovery.

Blood drive set for Saturday

MILANO NEWS The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will hold a blood drive on Saturday, July 21, at the Milano Volunteer Fire Department’s McLane Station. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Donors will receive a “Commit for Life” beach towel.

POSGCD annual water summit set August 15th

Date for the 2018 Milam and Burleson Counties Groundwater Summit has been set for Aug. 15. Hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Caldwell Civic Center. All are encouraged to attend, according to the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District, which hosts the annual event.
