Jim and Mary Lee of Houston visited with our family this past weekend. We had a very enjoyable time. It’s always good to see them. Liz Moore is running summer track and had a meet in Belton Saturday. She placed fifth in the 100-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meter dash. Good going, Liz!

Pickett honor featured for Juneteenth

Bill Pickett, the legendary African-American cowboy who is credited with inventing the rodeo sport of bulldogging on the streets of old Rockdale 115 years ago, will be honored during this year’s Juneteenth celebration. Dedication of a Bill Pickett Memorial is set for 1:30 p.m. June 16, at Wolf Park.

‘Old City Hall can be restored’

Yes, Rockdale’s 123-year-old former City Hall can be restored to its Victorian Era glory. Now it’s up to the city, and volunteers, to come up with the funding to make that proposed project a reality.

236 fallen heroes remembered Monday

They made the ultimate sacrifice. Two-hundred thirty-six Milam County residents who went off to war but never came back, were honored Monday as the annual community Memorial Day ceremony was held in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 Hall.

County eyes appointed treasurer

CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners on Tuesday decided on a split vote to seek a Texas constitutional amendment to change the office of treasurer from elected to appointed. Pct. 2 Commissioner Donald Shuffield raised the issue citing “what’s been going on in the past, here and other counties.

Six sentenced in district court

CAMERON—Six perspons were sentenced during recent 20th District Court action, according to Milam Prosecutor Bill Torrey.

Arrest after scam reported to police

POLICE REPORT Rockdale police made an arrest Saturday after receiving what they termed a “scam report.” Police Chief Thomas Harris said police received a report of elderly persons being charged work that was not performed. Arrested was 48-year-old Lonnie Burt Donaldson of Caldwell.
