MARDI GRAS TRADITION

—It’s s sure sign Rockdale is observing Mardi Gras when the Noon Lions Club hosts it annual pancake supper. That was the occasion last Tuesday in the New Salem Clubhouse at Fair Park. Among the Lions serving them up were (L-R) Randy Fletcher, Albert Jordan and Paul Dixon.

Spike strips end chase to Milano

POLICE REPORT What began as a simple speeding stop ended with highway chase from Rockdale to Milano, and the arrest of a 39-year-old Houston woman last Tuesday night. Police Chief Thomas Harris said Ofc.

LOTS OF DAMAGE

—But no injures were reported at 3:54 p.m. Monday in a collision between truck rigs on US 79 near CR 335 east of Rockdale.

HOT WHEELS

—Rockdale VFD responded to two vehicle fires in two days during the past week. Firefighters answered a call to this burning pickup a 4:30 p.m. last Tuesday (Feb. 13) in the 2200 block of FM 1712.

Top officer, firefighter due honors

The Rockdale Police Department’s officer of the year and Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s firefighter of the year will be honored at a banquet and dance Saturday at the KC Hall. Doors open at 5 p.m. with the meal at 6:30.

Lawsuit possible over water line

The City of Rockdale may be facing a lawsuit from a local church over a water line it replaced last year linking downtown to its water plant.

Primary early voting starts

Early voting for the March 6 Republican and Democratic Primaries will begin Tuesday at four locations throughout the county. It will end on March 2. Dates and locations: Rockdale Regional Juvenile Justice Center (696 North FM 487)— 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Feb. 20-23 and Feb. 26-March 2.

Candidate forums set

Two “Meet the Candidates” forums are set Thursday in advance of primary early voting. They are at 5:30 p.m. in the Rockdale City Library and 7 in the Milano Civic Center (time change from last week’s announcement). Rockdale’s is for county judge candidates only, Milano’s is for all candidates.

One more time!

Of course Thursday’s RHS Football Banquet at the KC Hall won’t be the last time the Tigers’ 2017 state championship will be remembered, but it was one of the largest celebrations.
