Landowners’ group seeks rule revisions

MILANO—A citizens group concerned about the future of groundwater in Milam County has prepared a set of rules revisions it wants the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District to consider.

Ice causes wrecks

Icy conditions before dawn Monday were blamed for two rollover wrecks on US 79 within 15 minutes of each other. Trooper Erik Gaston said at 5 a.m. a vehicle operated by Oscar Gomez, 48, of Rockdale left the highway near County Road 306. At 5:15 a.m.

World Ventures, owned by Mike Zapata, has joined the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. A ribbon cutting to denote the new member was held recently at the Chamber’s Rock House Visitor Center. Zapata snipped the ribbon, assisted by family members as Chamber directors, officials and ambassadors looked on.

Howling good time

Judge: Tax hike for 2019

It’s far from unexpected but County Judge Dave Barkemeyer has predicted additional tax hikes are in Milam County’s future. The county lost its largest taxpayer last month when Luminant closed its Sandow 4 and 5 Power Plants near Rockdale.
