Game Warden Field Notes

Bad exit plan A Fannin County game warden was alerted of a vehicle pursuit near his residence on May 14. The warden joined the pursuit and lent his knowledge of the area backroads to the other officers involved.

Lassoing a future

MINERVA – Curtis Todd is known throughout the state for his timing, speed, agility and strength. He consistently makes the top ten in the state qualifying events he enters, yet a majority of Milam County residents have never heard this athlete’s name.

Country club lists summer activities Rockdale Country Club will host a Senior Tournament on Thursday (June 20). The club will be closed for the MISD Golf Tournament 4-person scramble at 8 a.m., June 22. There are still spots available for the 3-person scramble on June 29-30.

Game Warden Field Notes Something fishy going on here

ADelta County game warden received a call on April 7 stating five men were using two cast nets to catch game fish at the Cooper Lake Spillway. The suspects’ vehicle was found by a State Parks officers at a Cooper gas station.

Winding down

Rockdale Girls Softball League play ended Wednesday with five Rockdale teams from three divisions advancing to district play. The Scrappers won the 15 and under division with a 9-1 record and head to district in Troy on June 24.

Little league action ends in mid June

Four Rockdale Little League baseball teams are headed to district competition, after having competed in the Rockdale Youth Baseball League for the last three months. The Rockdale Rangers with a 7-3 record took second place in the RYBL T-ball division last week.

Rockdale hires two new coaches for the 2019-20 season

Rockdale High School athletes will begin their 2019-2020 season with two new faces heading up the boys basketball and girls volleyball teams. Coaches Marcus McNeil and Kelsey Hudson are joining the Tiger family.

Red Sox draft pitcher with Rockdale ties

MISSOULA, MT—It’s not the usual path to the major leagues, not play baseball for four years and put in a college football career. But that opportunity has now presented itself to Caleb Hill, who was a seventh-round pick of the Boston Red Sox last week. Hill has tons of Rockdale connections.

State champs host tennis camp Two-time mixed doubles state tennis champions Reyna Gonzalez and Devon Whitsel are hosting the Second Annual Rockdale Tennis Summer Camp July 8-12 at Veteran’s Park on Murray Avenue. Camp is open to children ages 8 to 16 years old of all abilities.
