RHS soccer looks to clinch playoff spot against Hearne

The Rockdale Tiger soccer team lost to Eastside Memorial for the second time in District 26-4A play this season, falling 3-0 on Friday night at the new Tiger Stadium. “We honestly did an outstanding job,” said Gilberto Rodriguez, Rockdale High School head soccer coach.

THS golfs team compete in Cameron Both Thorndale golf squads competed in Cameron this past week. Last Tuesday, Mattie Fisher and Landry Laywell endured near freezing temperatures, according to head coach Lisa Von Gonten, and only played nine holes. Fisher shot a 54 and Laywell shot a 59.

All Rockdale netters earn places in Madisonville Tourney action

The Rockdale High Schools tennis team went into spring break on a high note with all members who competed placing in the Madisonville Tourney. In boys singles, Tim Montelongo placed fourth in a 16-player bracket.

Tiger golfers take second in Salado

The Rockdale Tiger golf team finished up their sixth tournament of the season placing second at Mill Creek Country Club in Salado Thursday. “The course was rough,” said Ethan Noel, Rockdale High School head golf coach.

Lady Tigers get first district win

The Rockdale Lady Tiger soccer team got their first District 26-4A win over Georgetown Gateway 5-4 in a sudden death shootout last Saturday at Tiger Stadium. After ending regulation game time tied at zero with Gateway, both teams failed to score in the 20-minute overtime that followed.

Relay teams work toward improvement

In the most anticipated and electric race of the Rockdale Relays, the Tigers boys sprint relay team put on a show last Friday at Tiger Stadium.

Tigers dog McGregor 11-3 in cold opener

In their first district contest, the Rockdale Tigers took down McGregor 11-3 at Tiger Field on Tuesday in 38-degree weather. RISD administrators decided to move the game from 6 p.m. to 5 due to low temperatures expected to drop as the night grew older.

Gonzalez, Whitsel play four matches to win Taylor Tournament

Reyna Gonzalez and Devon Whitsel brought home the gold at the Taylor Tournament this past weekend having only played in eight matches the entire 2019 tennis season. Four of those matches were played last Friday, in cloudy, 52-degree weather.

Two RHS powerlifters place at regionals

The Lady Tiger power-lifting season came to an end at the Region 2 Division III Meet at Little River-Academy High School this past Saturday, with Mackenzie Musto placing fifth in the 132-pound weight class and Autumn Montelongo placing seventh in her final high school meet in the 148.

Softball team rolls over ‘Dawgs for second District 19-3A victory
