FOOD PANTRY—Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open 10 a.m. until noon weekdays. Donations of non-perishable food items are welcome, especially one-pound bags of rice, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, canned soups and peanut butter.

He told me to tell you that We have three animals that live at our house. Champ, the world’s greatest Border Collie, is home from college for the summer. Typically he lives with the soon-to-be college senior at The Houston Baptist University.

Rockdale I&GN Depot-Museum was the site for the finale of the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library’s Summer Reading Club finale Thursday. Young readers, and other guests, toured the depot ground which included a working blacksmith shop (above).

Milam 4-H’ers clean up at Roundup

MILAM 4-H NEWS Milam County 4-H was represented well at the recent Texas 4-H Roundup at Texas A&M University. A total of 28 competed or participated in the three-day event. Eight Product ID participants competed and placed well.

Four-year-old Aaron Hughes was pretty sure he couldn’t make the handcar go, but he gave it a pretty good try Thursday as the City Library’s Summer Reading Program concluded with an open house at the I&GN Depot-Museum.

Thoughts behind the ‘pine cone curtain’
