100 YEARS AGO Uncle Tom Phillips of Rockdale had a most appreciated present. His oil well came in on June 27, which also happened to be Uncle Tom’s 82nd birthday. For several days it gushed by heads throwing the oil higher than the mast head. It’s daily production at first was 176 barrels.

Happiness is a Charlie Brown musical by MCT

Milam Community Theater w ill br ing Charles Schulz’s beloved comic to life this summer with Clark Gesner’s classic musical, “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.” The musical will be on stage at the Williams Event Center in Cameron July 27, 28, and Aug.

Milam County 4-H offered a 4-H Day Camp on Friday at the Milam County Extension Office. The camp was called FriYAY Day Camp because it happens on Friday. As a bonus we also did a French fry bar for lunch that day.

Kyle’s Kitchen We ate such heavy food for Father’s Day: brisket, ribs, sausage, potato salad, a big pot of beans, garlic bread and a creamy lemon dessert. On the Monday night after, Mom made a vegetarian dish which she’s made before, and we all agreed it was a nice change.

San Gabriel Christian Church celebrates 100th anniversary

San Gabr iel Chr istian Church is the oldest congregation in Milam County. An EF-0 tornado ripped through Milam County on April 6, 2019 with winds up to 85 miles per hour, taking off the roof of the church and causing extensive damage.

CHURCH NEWS

San Gabr iel Bapt ist church will host a gospel singing on Saturday, June 29. The evening will feature congregational singing as well as solos and other special music. Singing will begin at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served afterwards.

100 YEARS AGO The big Fourth of July celebration which is to be given by the Rockdale Post 358 American Legion, will mark the close of a two years’ successful operation of the Post.
