75 years in Legion

Rockdale veteran, and retired businessman Jim Currey (seated, center) received a singular honor last week when he was presented his 75-year certificate as a member of American Legion Carlyle Post 358. Making the presentation (lower left) was Post Commander Jim McKimmey and other members looked on.

Telemedicine coming to Milam County

Is it possible for us to have telemedicine in Milam County? This would certainly be a big step forward as we need an urgent care/emergency room in the county. However, both are cost prohibitive at the present.

Minerva firefighter retires after 18 years

Upon retirement most fire fighters would reminisce about the intensity or damage a fire caused or talk about a poignant traffic fatality they responded to, but the most memorable fire John Tom Lawhon fought stuck in his mind because of the cause of the fire.

Milano Senior Citizens fund raiser Nov. 23 The annual fundraiser sponsored by the Milano Senior Citizens will be held on Nov. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Milano Civic Center. Kimberlee Leber, a Texas Gospel Blues singer/songwriter, will be performing.

BADGES

Girl Scout Troop 9605 is working on their Entrepreneur Badge. Recently the scouts toured Mr. Gatti’s Pizza. Scouts and troop leaders expressed appreciation to owner Jeff King. King is pictured in the back row along with troop leaders Maria Santellano and Bonney Smith.

Rockdale Christian offers ‘Coats for Kids’ Rockdale Christian Church is providing new coats for children in the community “who are not fortunate enough to have good winter clothing,” according to Minister Harry Stevenson.

Third annual classic car show at Presbyterian Saturday

The third annual classic car show is being held at the First Presbyterian Church on Sat., Nov. 16th at 9 a.m. with all proceeds going to the Rockdale independent School District to benefit local children in need. Car owners are invited to bring their classic cars to compete in the show.

The Rockdale Historical Society’s annual chili luncheon fund raiser had a new location, the I&GN Depot-Museum, Saturday, the depot itself.

Santa to arrive early in Milano

Santa Claus is coming to Milano early this year. Santa will arrive at Liberty Church on Saturday, Nov. 30. Santa will be available from 3 to 6 p.m. Bring your children and friends and have your pictures taken with Santa.
