I was thinking about Mr. Joe Hairston’s cantaloupes the other day and I just happened to run across this recipe. This combination of flavors sounds very good to me. The recipe does have a couple of not-available-in-Rockdale ingredients, but with a couple of changes we can fix all that.

There was a tire clean-up Saturday at the Milam County Precinct 3 bar outside of Rockdale and the tire haul was huge. County workers and volunteers collected enough tires to fill four semi-truck trailers.

Ayanna Williams of Houston finally got a manicure. Big deal, you say? The Association of Mature American Citizens says it is indeed a very big deal when your nails haven’t been cut for three decades. Her nails grew to a length of 288.8 inches over those 30 years.

‘LIGHT IT UP’—Milano ISD Athletic Department has began a “Light it Up” fundraising campaign to get lights on its baseball field. The school has had a baseball program for over two decades, but never a lighted field. The softball field got lights just a few weeks ago.

100 YEARS AGO... Despite unsettled weather, tremendous rains and almost impassable roads, Rockdale’s third Trade Days proved to be an unqualified success with at least 2,000 persons assembled on the streets. It is believed that this number would have been doubled had the roads permitted travel.
