Testing resumes after holiday break

There was not had a lot of reporting over the holiday from our medical providers. However, there are six new probable cases to report.  Twenty-nine cases were discharge over the break, including nine PCR cases and twenty probable cases.  There were no new hospital admissions.

WORK DELAY

The work along US 79 by the Texas Department of Transportation in Rockdale’s downtown has now been postponed twice and still has no new start date.

Holiday closings

Here are closings for Thanksgiving: • Area schools are out all week (Nov. 23-27). • City Hall and the City Library will be closed both Thursday and Friday. The library will also be closed Saturday. • Thursday garbage pickup will be made Friday and Friday pickup Saturday.

A Rockdale resident died in a fire Monday morning at the Pecan Grove RV Park at 1422 East Cameron Ave. Police responded to a call shortly before 6 a.m. Anthony Azzarello, 49, died in the fi r e .

12 new COVID-19 cases add to totals

In COVID-19 testing Friday found positive results for 12 Milam County residents. THE NUMBERS—COVID-19 cases this week have been measured Wednesday to Monday due to holiday deadlines. • Cumulative cases – 621, up 16 from 605. • Active cases (PCR test) — 36, which is down 3 from last week’s 39.

Things were fizzling over in Perry & Perry Construction’s Serving Welder Across Texas Building in Rockdale on Nov. 17. That is because there were 196 students of welding from 19 school districts in Texas competiting for awards in the Tiger Tough Welding Competition for high school students.

POLICE REPORT

Police arrested a 14-year-0ld Rockdale resident on two felony charges the past Wednesday. The teen was charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member and assault on a public servant.

FIRE CALLS

• Thursday, 11:52 a.m., the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department along with the Milam County Sheriff’s Office and AMR responded to a one-vehicle accident on U.S. 79 near the turn to CR 306. • Saturday, 10:41 p.m., the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 400 block of East U.S.
