‘Sing’ movie slated Friday at Kay Theatre

The Kay Theater will show the animated movie “Sing” twice Friday at the Kay Theatre. Public showing is at 7 p.m., according to Bob Burnett, spokesman. Earlier in the day there’s a special luncheon showing for children in First Baptist Church’s “Feed Rockdale” program.

Remembering

With officers from many departments on hand, and half-staff flags fluttering in the breeze, Milam County, and its law enforcement community, remembered the late Sheriff David Greene on Friday, one day before the first anniversary of his death from a heart attack.

MDD: ‘Debt would delay transfer’

For the first time, the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) has indicated it might consider surrendering at least some of its half-cent sales tax to help bring a new clinic to the former hospital campus.

City eyes budget

It’s budget time again in the City of Rockdale and meetings are scheduled for four consecutive afternoons Aug. 5-8 at City Hall to plan the document. Often the council has needed only one or two of those sessions to make plans and has canceled the others.

Teacher pay hikes ahead for 2019-20

Every new school term Rockdale ISD Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo writes an introductory letter to teachers and other staffers. This year’s is her favorite. Thanks to new legislation, she is able to tell the 2019-20 teaching staff they will get pay increases averaging 10 percent.

Permanent injunctions issued for ‘junkyard’

County authorities continue to ratchet up the pressure for a cleanup at an East Cameron Avenue (US 79) property which has been declared a “junkyard” in court action.

What a turnout

Dozens of law enforcement officers from across Milam County and beyond were on hand Friday afternoon at the Law Enforcement Center in Cameron to honor the late Sheriff David Greene one day before the first anniversary of his death.
