New student signup ahead in Rockdale ISD The Rockdale ISD has announced dates for new student registration for the 2019-2020 school term. Trustees eye 2019-20 term

Rockdale Independent School District’s board of trustees met Monday in regular session and discussed changes going into the 2019-2020 school year.

Abandoned dogs rescued by police

POLICE REPORT Rockdale police rescued what they said were three dogs left abandoned by their owners in two incidents during the week. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said police found two unattended dogs in a room at the Budget Inn.

Truck fire

This call to a burning 18-wheeler at 6:49 p.m. Thursday on US 79 at CR 335 was one of several during the past week for the Rockdale VFD. There was also a rekindle of the truck fire at 9:27 p.m. Rockdale volunteers also responded to reports of a grass fire at 4:15 and 9:56 p.m.

Meet the teachers, Eagles events set for August 19th

MILANO NEWS Milano ISD’s Meet the Teacher event will be held Aug. 19, starting at 5 p.m. The annual Meet the Eagles will also be held that evening at 7 p.m. at Geneva Paceley Gym.

Trey, Melanie and A.C. Coats of Houston visited Sunday afternoon with Wanda and Al Coats. Patti Stewart and Elizabeth Moore met Lynsie Kornegay and her boyfriend, Davion, for lunch at Wings & More in Bryan Sunday. They went school shopping while there and found lots of good bargains.

Certified values: RISD down, others increase

CAMERON—It’s not a surprise, but the only Milam County entity to see its taxable values drop in the annual certified values report from the Milam Appraisal District (AD) is the Rockdale ISD.

VOICES DONATIONS

The group VOICES Against Abuse has disbanded and has split its funds between two local organizations. The donations will fund a pair of VOICES-teed metal benches at both locations. Above, Pat Doud VOICES founder, presents $8,890.90 to Place of Hope.
