Rockdale Police Officers made four felony arrests dur ing the past week including: • Brandon Cornwell, 41, Rockdale, was arrested by Ofc. Lentz for two counts of possession of a controlled substance (1 to 4 grams) and for tamper/ fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair.

Voters choose Willie, Casas, Heintze, Miles

In yet another poor voter turnout for Rockdale city and school elections, the following races were determined. Rockdale City Council— Daniel Willie won the open westside spot with 130 votes (56.77%) to incumbent Kyle Walker’s 78 votes (34.06%) and Taylor Hjorth’s 21 votes (9.17).

Alvan Liu has received acceptance letters from some very fine schools including Yale, Brown, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, John’s Hopkins and MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), and has chosen MIT because they offered a good financial aid package.

Rockdale Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Craven It Specialties on Friday with a DJ playing music, food and goody bags to celebrate its opening. The store sells tie-dyed apparel, home decor, mugs and more and supports causes like autism aware ness, anti-bullying and animal rescue.

National Train Day set for Saturday at depot

National Train Day is May 10, and celebrates the completion of the first transcontinental railway in 1869. The Rockdale Depot Museum, Hearne Depot and Milam County Railroad Museum in Cameron are collaborating to offer a special day trip to all three museums.
