‘Multiple’ water rate hikes eyed over next five years

Ger ready, Rockdale water customers. As the city prepares to talk dollars and cents in its effort to replace its “failing” water system, a series of inevitable water rate increases looms for the next five years.

Quality Inn, 702 West US 79 in Rockdale, has new owners and the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce recently held a ribbon-cutting to commemorate the change of ownership.

Chamber lighting contest Dec. 9th

Hearne author DuBois slates library program Hearne native Erica DuBois, who writes under the name E. L. DuBois, will be at the Rockdale City Library for a book signing and autograph session at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29.

No city jury duty

A Rockdale Municipal Court jury trial scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 4, has been canceled. Persons ca;ed are excused fro appearing that day.

Serious injuries in car-pedestrian accident Thursday

POLICE REPORT A 74-year-old Rockdale man remains in Baylor Scott & White Hospital, Temple, after he was struck by a car Thanksgiving evening. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said James Crowder was struck at 6:22 p.m. in the 700 block of West Cameron (US 79) in front of the Budget Inn.

CPS DONATION

RVOS Rockdale Lodge 149 has donated $600 to Milam County Child Protective Services. Lodge President, Doug Williams presented the check to Jeanie Weed, CPS Board Director.

Pedestrian treated after hit-and-run

SHERIFF’S REPORT A 34-year-old man was treated and released at a Bryan hospital Sunday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle which left the scene south of Rock-dale. State Trooper Jacob Luna said pedestrian Victor Gonzales Jr. was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital after the 5:55 p.m. incident.

FIRE CALLS

Calls for South Milam County volunteer fire departments, dispatched during the past week from the Rockdale Police Department, included: • 7:38 p.m. Nov. 20—Rockdale VFD called out for traffic control at West Cameron (US 79) and Childress after report traffic was blocking highway. Call was canceled.
