The zapper

Of course not getting zapped was the purpose of Bluebonnet Electric bringing this simulator to the Rockdale VFD Fire Station for a drill Monday evening. Fire Chief Ward Roddam said volunteers were trained on dealing with the hazards of high-voltage lines in emergency situations using the simulator.

MARCHING INTO 2018-19

—This was the scene on Belton Avenue in front of Rockdale Elementary School just before 8 a.m. Monday, and in countless other places, as the 2018-19 school year got underway. Rockdale ISD begin the year with 1,464 students, compared to 1,507 the first day last year.

Dove season to kick off Sept. 1st

Dove season begins on Saturday, September 1. Hunters will take to the field at daybreak looking. Wing shooting is my favorite form of hunting. There’s often lots of shooting, and doves—darting, zigging and zagging in flight—are always a challenge to hit.
