—Here’s an illustration of the problems faced by the City of Rockdale, and particularly its water customers, in dealing with the ongoing “red water”situation. Recently city crews replaced part of a water line on Wilcox north of the Cameron Avenue (US 79) intersection.

Summer events: Street play and photography

COMMENTS FROM MICAH It continues to be a busy summer for Milam County 4Hers. A Photography Day Camp was held a couple pf weeks ago in Cameron. The Play Streets Summer Activity continues July 17 and 31, also in Cameron. SMILE, CLICK—Photography Day Camp was held June 29 at Bea’s Kitchen in Cameron.

SPRINGFIELD BIBLE SCHOOL

—Springfield Baptist Church, corner of MLK and Third, held its annual Daily Vacation Bible School last week with the annual event ending on Friday. About 45 persons attended and the 2018 theme was “Follow the Leader.” Rev. S. L. Ross (at pulpit) is the pastor of Springfield Baptist.

Fireworks Wednesday in Cameron

QUICK LOOK Wilson-Ledbetter Park, on FM 1600 near Cameron’s southern city limits, is the site for Milam County’s fireworks Wednesday for the Fourth of July. As usual, many businesses, along with city, county and federal facilities, will close for the holiday. The Reporter will be closed.

Inmate dies in city jail hanging

A 27-year-old Rockdale woman died Thursday after police said she hung herself in the jail holding facility of the police station. Renee Erlinda Serna was pronounced dead at Little River-Rockdale Hospital following the 4:33 p.m. incident, according to police.

First Hacker trial now January

Trials of the four persons accused of capital murder in the death of Emily Hacker, have been delayed for the third time Prosecutor Bill Torrey told The Reporter defense attorneys went to court last Wednesday (June 27) and obtained a re-set of the trials until January, 2019.

Sheriff sustains heart attack

Milam County Sheriff David Greene, who has served in that office for the past 10 years and is a 40-year veteran of Milam County law enforcement, continues to be hospitalized in an intensive care unit this week after suffering a major heart attack.
