Mr. Edelmon
Louie Vaughn Edelmon, 92, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026, at a residential care home in Lewisville.
He was born Oct. 28, 1933, in San Angelo to Louie Cole Edelmon and Willie Opal Tubbs Edelmon.
A 1951 g r aduate of Lake View High School, he married Wanda Fay “Poogie” Pruett on Nov. 6, 1952, in Rockdale. They raised four children there before moving to Temple in 2013.
After Wanda’s death, Louie moved to the Dallas–Fort Worth area to be closer to family.
He began working young, first helping his father deliver ice and later apprenticing as a cement finisher. After his father died in a construction accident at the Alcoa plant in 1953, Louie continued in construction until joining Texas Power & Light Co. (IGC) in 1956. He served in many maintenance roles, retiring early as mechanical maintenance superintendent.
He was also a member and president of the local IBEW and later worked as a consultant for Alcoa.
Louie gave his time and leadership to groups including Little League Baseball, the Rockdale Fair Association and the Rockdale I&GN Depot Museum.
A gifted craftsman and welder, he often began as a builder or renovator and became more deeply involved. Friends and family still cherish the cedar porch swings and ornamental garden art he made.
His interests were wide-ranging. A 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air inherited from his father-in-law sparked years of car club activities, shows and parades.
After a 1994 trip to Alaska, he learned wood carving and made his own totem poles.
His love of steam engines led him to spend several summers as a docent on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad in Chama, New Mexico.
He also loved accordion music—polka, conjunto and Cajun alike.
Louie was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Fay “Poogie” Pruett Edelmon; his son, C. Wayne “Buddy” Edelmon; his brother, Frank Edelmon; and his sister, Ruby Edelmon Smith.
He is survived by his son, Charles Edelmon and wife Rose Ann of Fort Collins, Colorado; daughters Connie Edelmon and partner Greg Snowman of Coppell, Nancy Rierson and husband Christopher of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren Austin Edelmon and wife Brooke of Fort Worth, Sarah Edelmon-Boldt and husband Weston of Glendale, California; great-grandchildren Graham and Allison Edelmon of Fort Worth; his sister, Mary Edelmon Arrington; his brother, Robert Edelmon; and his sister-in-law, Cynthia Yoakum Edelmon.
Per his wishes, no services will be held.
