Edward Louis Dworaczyk

Edward Louis Dworaczyk 87, of Milano, went to be with his Heavenly Father Monday, Oct. 9, 2023.

A memorial ser v ice will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Phillips & Lucke y F u ne r al Home in Rockdale, with Pastor Roy Dillard officiating.

Edward was born Oct. 4, 1936, in Fashing to Theodore Mr. Dworaczyk

Jake and Anna Warwas Dworaczyk. He was the youngest of six children.

Edward attended elementary school in Fashing, middle school in Campbellton and high school in Pleasanton.

After graduation in 1954, he joined his brother Mike in San Antonio and began work as a carpenter for Dean Word Co.

Edward met Sandra in 1954 through his sister, Doris, who lived in the same neighborhood as Sandra. They began to date in 1955 when Harriet Gaffney (Sandra’s friend who Edward had been dating) moved to California. Edward and Sandra married Sept. 27, 1957, after Sandra graduated from high school.

Edward’s oldest son, Larry Wayne, was born Aug. 29, 1958, and his youngest son, Garry Dan, was born Aug. 30, 1961.

Edward left Dean Word Co. and became a concrete superintendent for Cloud Corp. in the mid-1960s.

In t he mid-1980s , Edward left Cloud Corp. and went to work for Johnny Leyendecker Rio Bridge Co.

Also, Edward worked a couple of years for Kenneth Evans Co.

Eventually in the late-1990s, Edward returned to work for Dan Word Co. and remained there until he retired in 2006.

Edward and Sandra purchased her aunt and uncle’s, (The Neals) ranch and moved from San Antonio to the ranch when he retired. Edward loved ranching and being in the country.

Edward had cataract surgery in 2005. The surgery seemed to be successful but several months later the left retina detached. After four unsuccessful attempts to reattach the retina, the ophthalmologist told Edward they could not help him.

In 2006, Edward was diagnosed with macular degeneration in his right eye and thus began his every four- to six-month visits to the ophthalmologist to help him retain his right eye vision.

Slowly Edward accepted his limited vision. He had to give up driving and allow Sandra to do the driving.

Edward also became hard of hearing and wore hearing a ids. E dward h ad just gotten new hearing aids in June. Edward was laughing and telling the doctor he could not see very well, nor could he hear well, but for someone his age, he said “I’m blessed.”

Edward had a spe cial relationship with his grandson, Hunter Morgan. Edward and Hunter called each other several times a week to tell each other a joke, laugh and visit. Edward’s one regret will be that he didn’t live to see Hunter graduate from college.

Edward will be missed by many.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore Jake and Anna Dworaczyk; brother Tom L (Elizabeth) Dworaczyk; brother Alfred J Dworaczyk; brother Michael J (Louise) Dworaczyk; sister Doris (Tommy) Bukowski; sister Louise (Buddy) Armentrout.

Edward is survived by his wife of 66 years, Sandra Lee Dworaczyk; two sons, Larry Wayne Dworaczyk and Garry Dan Dworaczyk; and his grandson, Hunter Morgan Dworaczyk.

Edward is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Edward will be missed by all.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.

All are invited to a reception following the service at the Milano Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
