Mr. Doss
Doss
Coy Ray Doss, 77, of Colorado Springs passed away late in the evening on July 5, 2024.
Bor n on Sept. 7, 1946, in Cameron to parents Emory Ray Doss and Nanc y Frances (Betchan) Doss, Coy was the youngest with two older sisters, Sandra and Barbara. He was raised on a farm in the wild country of Central Texas.
In 1965, Coy graduated from Rockdale High School with an academic performance earning him a scholarship to Schreiner University in Kerrville. He would later transfer his studies to the University of Texas in Austin, where he worked for several years at the UT physics laboratory, honing his mastery of developing ion detectors. He graduated with a bachelors of science in electrical engineering, launching him on a career path that consequently led him to work and travel in many countries all around the world, installing and servicing ion implanting machines for industrial tech companies.
After much travel with his wife and kids, Coy would settle on the same farm where he grew up. Owing to his humble upbringing from a time of fewer resources, as well as his natural ingenuity, Coy had the diligence and know-how to build a house from his own hands and grow his own self-sustaining garden to raise, shelter, and help feed all nine of his children.
Coy was a loving father who cared and attended to the upbringing and education of all his children, throughout the development of their lives.
In his spare time, Coy loved tinkering with gadgets and inventing his own electromechanical designs, machining with raw materials to develop his own working prototypes.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Doss; his sister, Barbara Sutton; all of his nine children, Lucas, Apolline, Jubilee, Abrahm, Alden, Arthur, Theodore, Rose and Sophia Doss; in addition to his eight grandchildren.
Coy leaves an ever-expanding and ever-impactful ripple of love, inspiration and wisdom throughout this world. He will forever be deeply loved and missed by his family.
In celebration of Coy’s life, a local memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30. For more information on the memorial, please call or text 512-550-1857.
