Alfred E. Owens, 93, of Weir passed away Sunday evening, June 14, 2026, at his home.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 18, at Milano Cemetery in Milam County, with Rev. Alex Berrios officiating.

The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday at the cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Steve Cox, Bobby Nichols, Billy Davenport, Bill Pell, Denzal Wright, Tomm Owens, Dennis Owens and Scott Owens.

A memorial service will be held later this month at Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church in Williamson County, with details to be announced.

Alfred worked throughout the state of Texas as a surveyor for the Soil Conservation Service, now known as the Natural Resources Conservation Service, an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture.

He graduated from Milano High School and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, where he worked as a metalsmith repairing damaged military aircraft.

A devoted man of faith, Alfred served as a Baptist deacon and spent more than 50 years participating in evangelism and service projects with churches and organizations throughout Central Texas and the Lower Rio Grande Valley. He was among the founding members of Chisholm Trail Cowboy Church in Weir.

Born in Llano County, Alfred grew up surrounded by horses, cattle and other livestock. He later raised cattle and sheep with his sons and maintained a lifelong love of the outdoors.

One of his favorite pastimes was hunting mule deer on family property near Sanderson in the Trans-Pecos Region of Texas.

In 1959, Alfred married Billie Jean Williams of Milano and together they raised three children, primarily in the Tanglewood community of Lee County.

Billie Jean preceded him in death in 1993.

In 1995, he married Oyce Barber of Georgetown, who preceded him in death in 2010.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Myrtle Owens; his brothers, Charlie Owens, Bob Owens and Denzal Owens; and his sisters, LaVerne Hall and Kirby Wright.

Alfred is survived by his brother, Pud Owens of Milam County; his daughter, Deedra Gaye Owens of Bryan; his sons, Dalton Owens of Weir, Brad Owens and wife Rose of Rockdale; also, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
