Like Rockdale, both Milano and Thorndale saw drastic changes during UIL realignment earlier this month.
MHS, who spent the last two years in Class 2A-I as the smallest school by more than 40 students in their district is back down to Class 2A-II where they will play in District 13-2A-II with Burton, Granger, Iola, Snook, Somerville and Bartlett.
Milano was a playoff team in 2018, but struggled with a 1-5 record in district play this past season.
Of their new district foes, the Eagles faced Iola and Burton last season, falling to the Bulldogs 14-3 and to the Panthers, who were then ranked by Texas Football Magazine, 28-7.
As the de facto center location between the six other teams, the district is the consolidation of former District 13 and 14 schools from the last realignment.
Iola, Burton, Granger and Snook all made it to the post-season in 2019.
THORNDALE– Although Thorndale didn’t lose area power Holland as a district opponent, the Bulldogs moved out of Region IV away from Shiner, Mason and Refugio, three opponents that have ruled Region IV.
2020 state champion Refugio has bounced THS from the second round of the playoffs three consecutive seasons and now the Bulldogs no longer have to stress the possibility of facing them the next two years, unless they meet at state.
DISTRICT–In District 12-3A-I, Thorndale will see many familiar faces with Holland, Hearne, Thrall and Rosebud-Lott.
New additions are Bruceville-Eddy and Moody, who move over from Region II and District 8-2A-II.
Bruceville-Eddy went undefeated in district play before losing 48-41 to Deleon in bi-district. Moody just missed out on the post-season placing fifth last season.
