In anticipation of rain throughout Central Texas on Thursday, including in Lago Vista, the site of Rockdale’s first track and field meet of the season, the school is now scheduled to compete on Wednesday.
According to RHS head track coach Lewis Edmonson, there was speculation that the meet might be canceled due to a Lago Vista boil notice that would make hosting a meet difficult.
As of Tuesday, the City of Lago Vista has lifted the boil water notice.
“I think at this point, schools want to get the opportunity to face other competition,” Edmonson said, “especially with COVID.”
“You don’t know how many chances you’ll get in a season that’s already marked down,” he said.
Despite the uncertainty, Edmonson is looking forward to all the kids getting a chance to compete, especially with the Rockdale Relays coming up on March 5 and 6.
