First off some important information. AT&T has been suffering with a major outage for three weeks with no estimate about when service will be restored. This has caused Rockdale Christian Service’s food pantry to be without phone and internet service.

This week I attended a meeting in Taylor with some of the Samsung representatives to learn more about the schedule for the new Samsung facility in Taylor. Some of the dirt work has already begun and by mid 2023 there could be as many as 10,000 individuals working to build the new facility!

100 YEARS AGO… The annual membership meeting of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce was held, and in connection, as was the annual custom, a barbecue was served. The meeting was held at Mineral Park with the entertainment committee in charge of the eats, and needless to say it was a success.

Gary Ivy Selected for Veterans Service Officer—This week the Commissioners Court selected Mr. Gary Ivy as the new Milam County Veteran’s Service Officer. Gary is imminently qualified for the position as he currently works for the Texas Veterans Commission as the Northwest District Manager.

100 YEARS AGO… The annual County School Meet was coming to Rockdale in 1922. Probably a precursor to Rockdale Relays, but in addition to sports, academics were also part of the plan including debate, choir and spelling competitions.
