Milam County Annex Cornerstone Leveling—The Milam County Annex building was blessed with a traditional Cornerstone Leveling Ceremony on April 23 by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas. The Ceremony was well attended with over 50 masons from around the state.

One of the most distressing tragedies that ever happened in Rockdale resulted in the death of Velma Ashby, the 13-year-old daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. B. Ashby, who met her untimely end by coming in contact with a high-powered electric light wire.
Earth Day is this Friday. Plastic consumption in the US, and all over the world, is a big problem. Cutting down the amount of plastic we use is a good way to make our earth healthier for everyone, and earthday.org has lots of good ways to reduce our consumption.
We had a very nice Easter and I hope all of you did too. It was a quiet Easter with just four of us, but we ate like there were 20 of us.
I made the recipe for Carne Adovada that I had in my food column a week or so ago and it was delicious and everyone enjoyed it.
For the past 24 years Milam County government has funded a full-time Veteran’s Service Officer. Mr. Ken Janicek filled the position and did an outstanding job. With Ken’s retirement we have reviewed the need for a veteran’s service officer in the county.

A contract for another five-year lease was entered into between Uncle Sam and the and the J.W. Perry Estate, which ensured the Rockdale Post Office retention of its location in the Perry building on upper Cameron Avenue.
The date of Easter, when the resurrection of Jesus is said to have taken place, changes from year to year. The reason for this variation is that Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox.
My friend, Brenda, about whom I’ve written before, sent me some old photos from the early 1990s and brought back a ton of memories.
