Yard of the Month due March 22nd

Nominations for Rockdale Earth Day’s Yard of the Month award for April are due by Wednesday, March 22. This year, any yard with a Rockdale mailing address can be nominated. Winning homeowners will receive a $25 gift certificate to Bloomers Garden Center in Elgin.

Chamber banquet April 27

The Rockdale Chamber is having their annual banquet on April 27 at the New Salem Building in Fair Park starting at 6:30 p.m. This year the theme is “Small Town America.” “And yes, you can dress the part in red, white and blue,” according to chamber director Denise Brock. Happy Hour begins at 6 p.m.

Save the date for Rockdale Homecoming

The Rockdale Homecoming Association has held their first meeting of the year to plan for the annual Citywide Homecoming to be held Sunday, June 11 at the Patterson Civic Center. The Rockdale High School Class of 1973 will be the honored class of 50 years.

Rockdale’s favorite historian, Lucile Estell, celebrated her 93rd birthday at the First Friday Coffee held at the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library. Attendees sang ‘Happy Birthday’ as she walked down the ramp and was greeted with lots of hugs and affection.

Senior Rockdale FFA student, Ryan Luckey, has been selected as one of the students of the week by Capital Farm Credit. Luckey was interviewed by phone and the interview should be available soon on the Capital Farm Credit website.

Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Denise Brock announced on Tuesday that this year’s Easter Egg Hunt at Fair Park will be held on Friday, April 7, starting at 10 a.m. There will also be face painting, cotton candy, lots of carnival games, sack races and pictures with the Easter Bunny.
