SUNFLOWER FUN RUN/WALK—Plans are in the works for the Melodie Hope Jones Memorial Scholarship Fun “Sunflower Fun Run/Walk.” The event is scheduled for Sept. 25 at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell. There is a kids’ one mile color run at 9 a.m. and the 5K starts at 9:30 a.m.

Ground breaking in Thorndale

MRI Builders held a ground breaking in Thorndale on July 16 for a new subdivision that will have 88 homes.

July Yard of the Month

Rockdale Earth Day awarded Kim Nelson Simank at 717 Brazos Street the Yard of the Month for June. She will get a $25 gift certificate to Bloomers Garden Center in Elgin. Milam Ruck & Ride takes off Aug. 14

Former commander of 1st Ranger Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, ret. Col. Mike Kershaw is slated to speak at the Milam County Memorial Ruck & Ride on Aug. 14 at the Cameron Fire Station at 11 a.m. to honor Gold Star families and reflect on the service of fallen heroes.

Job fair in Milam County

Workforce Solutions of Central Texas sponsored a job fair in Rockdale’s George Hill Patterson Community Center on July 20. There were 16 employers at the fair including representatives from the Navy, Temple College and Texas Veterans Commission.
