Team Alex has lost its captain. Alex Sandoval, the 11-year-old girl whose fight with a rare brain cancer inspired hope and the will to battle in the hearts of citizens of Rockdale, died Monday. “It’s with broken hearts that Andy and I tell you all that this morning at 9:30, Alex lost her fight.

County gets serious about cleaning up property

Commissioners and the county judge, with the help of a law firm, are out to clean up Milam County. The county is going to step up its efforts to go after property owners who are fouling their land with illegal dumping.

Not many people can say they have shared the bill with the likes of classical music composers, but Rockdale piano teacher Dixie Whitmore can. She reached that lofty spot when she was but a neophyte in the world of music.

County herd immunity is at almost 43 percent

Milam County herd immunity is now at 42.8%. This includes 6,563 individuals who have been fully vaccinated and 9.5% of the county that have viral immunity. There are 19,689 individuals in the county that could be vaccinated.

Officers make two felony arrests

A 26 year old man from McDade was arrested Thursday at 6:48 p.m. by Sgt. Michael Hubnik for unlawful possession of firearm by felon. A Fairfield woman, 50 was arrested Saturday at for possession of a controlled substance (1 to 4 grams).
