RCS food pantry Rockdale Christian Services operates a food pantry at 224 West Cameron Avenue, open the second and fourth Thursday and Friday of the each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

TISD closes on purchase of land

Thorndale Independent School District closed on the purchase of 16 acres of land to the east of Stadium Drive on April 15, according to Superintendent Adam Ivy. “It will more than double our current footprint and it is adjacent to our stadium,” he said.

Pacey Rutherford won the T-shirt design for this year’s Rockdale Earth Day contest. His design will appear on this year’s t-shirts which are for sale by Rockdale Earth Day for $15. Pacey is a junior at Rockdale High School and is the son of Casey and Kelcie Rutherford.

Farmers’ Market is now every Saturday morning The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce is holding a farmers’ market on the grounds of the historic Coffield Stone Tree House at 1203 W. Cameron. The market is held each Saturday from now until the end of October. The hours are 8 a.m. to noon.

A Milam County resident who once competed on the reality show, “American Idol,” was arrested last week in Rockdale on a charge of burglary of a habitation. Cecil Ray Baker, 20, of Rockdale was arrested at 8:08 a.m. on Friday. He was booked into Milam County Jail on Saturday at 3:27 p.m.
