Bitmain, located in most of the former Alcoa smelter, opened its doors Friday to a group of invited county business and civic leaders. They discovered the cryptocurrency-mining venture is humming right along. That’s literally.

Fair sales nearing $700,000

There were two huge highlights of the 2019 Rock-dale Fair, which ended Saturday at Fair Park. The Fair’s combined sales—to benefit Milam County 4-H and FFA youth—will top $700,000, including a record $430,000-plus livestock action Saturday night. And the park didn’t flood.

City selling property as deal falls through

In July, Rockdale residents were thrilled when a Tennessee-based development company announced plans for a “major” retailer to locate on a West Cameron Avenue (US 79) location which was once envisioned as the site for Rock-dale’s new police department. It’s not going to happen.

MARC ‘HEROES’

—Lowe’s of Hutto employees. working through its “Lowe’s Heroes” volunteer program, presented a new refrigerator and microwave to Rockdale’s MARC Center, along with a table, power washer and scrubber the Heroes used to clean sidewalks, patio area and storage building and tools.

RISD Learning Center honored

Rockdale ISD trustees on Monday, meeting in regular session in the Central Administration Building, congratulated the district’s Tiger Learning Center for receiving formal accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Carnival fight brings charges plus citations

POLICE REPORT Rockdale Police responded to a fight at the Fair Park carnival last Wednesday night, making one felony arrest and issuing several citations. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said police arrived about 9 p.m., broke up the fight and pieced together what led up to the incident.

SENIOR EXPO

—Rockdale’s KC Hall was packed last Wednesday as Milam County TRIAD hosted the annual countywide Senior Expo. The hall included vendors with all kinds of information for senior citizens and a number offered free gifts.
