APPRECIATION

At a recent Rockdale Hospital Board meeting, Dick Burns (R) presented Terry Browning with a service appreciation plaque in recognition of his retirement from the board. Browning served 10 years on the board in several leadership areas over his tenure.

New clinic opening Monday

The new Health Point Rockdale Clinic will open Monday on the campus of the former Richards Memorial Hospital, bringing with it a return to all-ages health care, medical facilities affiliated with a big-city hospital and a few familiar faces.

Halloween rolls in

Thursday is Halloween, the orange-and-black yard decorations are out (above) and even though the weather forecast isn’t the best, there will lots of little ghosts and goblins out on the streets. Drivers are urged to be extra careful. Traditionally Rockdale trick-or treating is from 5 to 8 p.m.

Murder, child porn among indictments on Thursday

CAMERON—Indictments for murder and possession of child pornography were among 38, involving 33 persons, handed down by a Milam County Grand Jury Thursday. MURDER—David Rodriguez Jr., 24, was indicted in connection with the stabbing death of 25-year-old Michael McDowell Sept.

Fair sales set all-time marks for youngsters

A number of 4-H and FFA youngsters throughout Milam County just saw their “going to college” funds increase. Final results from the Rockdale Fair Association showed the 2019 Fair set records for both the youth livestock ($447,315) auction and all auctions ($717,925) totals.

More candidates for GOP

Filing for the 2020 primaries won’t begin until Nov. 9, but, according to announcements, there are at least two contested countywide races set for the March 3 Milam County Republican ballot. Both involve incumbent office holders who will draw challengers.

Nov. 13 auction part of Thrasher property cleanup

County Judge Steve Young told Milam County commissioners on Monday there will be an auction at the Richie Thrasher property as part of the effort to clean up what has been ruled a “junkyard” in court.

Veterans Day ceremony ahead at RHS

The annual Veterans Day tribute at Rockdale High School, a highlight for veterans, students and the community, is set for 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11 in the high school gym. Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo said the community and-surrounding areas, are invited to attend.

Thanksgiving service now in planning phase Event planners for Rock-dale’s 19th annual Community Outreach Thanksgiving Luncheon are seeking participation from the public. The event, which serves hundreds of Thanksgiving meals, is set for Nov. 23 in the First Baptist Church fellowship hall.
