RMH buildings out of bankruptcy

As anticipated, and reported in a story last week in The Reporter, the buildings at the former Richards Memorial Hospital campus have been released from bankruptcy. It’s a milestone, according to Dick Burns, chair of the Rockdale Hospital District board of trustees.

New law to help out RISD taxpayers

Don’t panic when you read the required Rockdale ISD notice on the new school tax rate on page 7B of this Reporter. It appears to indicate trustees are proposing a six-cent tax hike, from $1.36 to $1.42.

Ten draw district court sentences

CAMERON—Ten persons were sentenced during the past two weeks in 20th District Court of Milam County, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey.

Milano gets new 2019 valedictorian graduate MILANO—A recalculation of grade-point averages at Milano High School has produced a new valedictorian, according to Catrina Steinbecker, Director of Student Services. Parker Jones, previously announced as the salutatorian, is the 2019 valedictorian.

Business break-in cleared with arrest

POLICE REPORT The arrest of a 27-year-old Taylor man on Friday cleared a burglary in late May at a downtown business, according to Rockdale police. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said a number of items, including car keys, were removed after a tarp was cut at Contes Automotive.

North Milam shooting investigated as suicide

SHERIFF’S REPORT The Milam County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting death of a 46-year-old Buckholts area man as a suicide. Sheriff Chris White said the body was discovered last Wednesday morning at a County road 205 residence.
