Gospel Jamboree set for Sunday

GIDDINGS—The 5th a Country Gospel Jamboree, to be held Sunday, at the Giddings High School auditorium. The opry-style show kicks off at 6:30 p.m., hosted by Second Chance, the band of the Cowboy Church of Lee County. Admission is free, and $10 hamburger plates will be available starting at 5:30 p.m.

NEWSBRIEFS

Workshop for students scheduled on Mondays “Spring into the Future,” job search and financial management workshops for Rockdale High School students are being held every Monday through April 15. They begin at 3:30 p.m. in the high school library.

First Friday ahead

The Thursday Reading Club will host the free monthly First Friday meet-and-greet this Friday at the city library. Hours are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Traffic stop nets ‘designer drug’ ecstasy Saturday

POLICE REPORT A Saturday traffic stop resulted in a narcotics charge involving the “designer drug” ecstasy. Lt. Stephen Goodrich said Ofc. Joah McCaleb stopped a vehicle on a “minor” traffic offense.

GOOD-BYE GLENDA

—Glenda Wiley has retired after 18 years working at City Hall. Wiley was the receptionist and greeted visitors as they came in the door. The city hosted a circus-themed retirement party for Wiley last week at The Ranch.

Here is the Milam County Jail Log for March 26-April 1. Jail logs list all persons charged with offenses through the county jail docket. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

FIRE CALLS

In addition to making runs to major accidents during the past week (see story page 1A and police report on this page), the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department answered one fire call. That came at 10:53 p.m. March 26 and sent Rock-dale firefighters to car fire at Walmart.
