Historical Society seeks quilts for May 4 exhibit The Rockdale Historical Society will host a quilt exhibit May 4 at the I&GN Historical Depot and is now accepting quilts to display. Anyone interested should contact Gene Stork at 512-446-2551 or Pat Jackson at 512-446-2956.

13 draw terms in Milam 20th District Court

CAMERON—Twelve persons were sentenced during the past two weeks in 20th District Court activity, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey: • Robert Edward Cairns, III, 53, Dovers, five-year prison term after pleading “no contest” to sexual assault of a child.

FIELD OF DREAMS

When Pastor Royal Johnson put out the call for a community-wide prayer in Rockdale in January, he didn’t know what to expect. Johnson, who is the pastor of Rising Star Baptist Church, said he wanted to put the idea out there, which is why he came to the newspaper.

MCJLS sale $174,675 . . . and counting

CAMERON—It’s another banner year for the Milam County Junior Livestock Show which ended Saturday night with the annual auction benefiting Milam FFA and 4-H youth. Preliminary total after Saturday’s sale was $174,675. Added money is being prepared this week.

Dewberry run scheduled for May 3 this year

There are some changes ahead for Alpha Tau Delta 2019 Dewberry Jam, the 20th such event. It’s moving from the fi rst weekend in April to the first weekend in May, from a Saturday to a Friday and from morning to evening.

Chamber banquet Thursday

QUICK LOOK The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce Banquet is set for Thursday at the KC Hall and it’s “going Jollywood” this year. “People are going all out ‘Hollywood style,’ this year and dressing the part,” Chamber spokesperson Denise Brock said.

Late diplomas still available

The Rockdale ISD may still award diplomas to former students who did not pass the required mandated state test. That new program is still available for former students who entered ninth grade before the 2011-12 school year.

St. Joseph’s asked to open clinic

Rockdale Hospital District board members believe they are just a couple of steps away from getting CHI-St. Joseph’s of Bryan to re-open three clinic suites at the former Richards Memorial Hospital. St. Joseph’s is a well-known, well-established and highly-respected health care provider.
