County okays Bitmain abatements

CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners have unanimously approved 10 years of tax abatements for Bitmain’s planned facility in the former Alcoa smelter. That Monday meeting also featured the first public appearance of a Bitmain executive, James Kyle of the company’s Sunnyvale, California office.

The Rockdale City Council, which has been mulling how to pay for a restoration of the old City Hall to its Victorian Era glory was presented an intriguing new strategy Monday.

Mom gets 8 years for neglect

CAMERON—A former Milano resident who pleaded guilty in April to neglecting her child as part of an online scam received an eight-year prison term Thursday in 20th District Court. Katelyn Carnline, 29, still faces charges in Brazos County, according to Prosecutor Bill Torrey.

One killed in accident near Cameron Monday A 65-year-old Cameron man died in a head-on crash Monday night just north of the Cameron city limits. According to the DPS, Joe Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Sam Berry shortly after the 9:02 p.m. collision on US 77.

Five accidents during week
