You may have already noticed my latest embarrassment on the front page last week. I ran across an old photo of Christmas at The Kay so I posted it to The Reporter’s Facebook page to remind everyone it was coming up.

Milam County moot court a huge success

Last week we held our second annual moot court competition. All five high schools in the county competed, including Buckholts, Cameron, Milano, Rockdale and Thorndale. I wish every citizen of this county could have witnessed these fine, outstanding leaders of tomorrow compete.

100 YEARS AGO… The “Owl” Restaurant, by Messrs. C.H. Landis and J.A. Thomas, was formally opened to the public and the occasion was celebrated by the proprietors by a public reception, the serving of a free lunch to all callers, and by band music by the Rockdale Boys Band.

Lordy what a fun, busy weekend it was around town. On Saturday we went to The 1895 to see the Lone Star Jazz Party and market and it was a blast. If you weren’t there you missed three excellent jazz bands, but don’t fret because there will be another one coming up in the spring.

I remember my dad typing out “homework” from the built-in desk in our home. The drawer to the side always held a ream of yellow typing paper and the IBM electric typewriter sang with the rhythm of a lifelong journalist.

100 YEARS AGO… The first pre-Christmas entertainment was given when Mrs. Ben Lowenstein Jr. opened her spacious home “Waldeck” to the San Souci Club and other guests. The entire lower floor was brilliant with holly berries, poinsettias and narcissi. Forty-two was played throughout the afternoon.

Dear editor, I just wanted to say thank you to Wynton Thomason for his coverage of our Thorndale ISD athletic programs. With such a large number of teams here in Milam County, I know Wynton will be in attendance when he can and will include all game results submitted to him if space is available.

Last Wednesday morning I was invited to be on Judge Steve Young’s radio show on KMIL. I had never been on the radio before so I was a little nervous. Had a bit of an upset stomach when I woke up that day. At my age I’m not one for dressing up. Comfort before style in my world.
