Class of ‘20: Something special

Don’t take time for granted

America needs to straighten out its racism

How did we end up in this situation? Blatant racism in the news every day. I’m seeing my black friends on social media and my heart cries out for them. Especially the ones with sons. America is in a bad place where racism is concerned. But how can this be?

Milam County comes together for graduates

Last Friday evening I witnessed a community of people come together during a pandemic to celebrate the graduating youth of our community. I witnessed a fine group of educational administrators work to ensure that the attendees were properly screened, distanced and that face coverings were worn.

Looking back... 10-20-40-100 YEARS AGO

100 YEARS AGO.... Internal Revenue Service Agent Capt. T. R. Stevic raided a Thorndale residence and found a large quantity of illegal alcohol (Prohibition had started) plus items believed related to the manufacture of alcohol.

Milam 4-H’ers in the spotlight

This spring, we are highlighting our Milam County 4-H seniors graduating in 2020. We are so proud of these youth as they have worked very hard, for most of them, over 10 years in 4-H. They have competed in numerous competitions and have gained life skills they will use their entire lives.

Side dishes with something-something

Sometimes I just want to eat a piece of protein simply cooked with salt and pepper. Maybe a little fresh garlic or garlic powder. Chicken breasts, boneless pork loin chops, even a hamburger patty. But when I do I like to step the sides up a little.

Always do your best

Our lives right now are part funeral, part monastery and part stuck in an airport with no connecting flights. If you ever wondered what it was like to be Julian Assange (the WikiLeaks guy who hides out in embassies to avoid prosecution), well now you know.

Christianity is a global religion

Each year, millions of young people commit to the sacraments and profess to fulfill the tenets of the Christian faith. Each sacrament helps Christians strengthen the bonds they have with their faith.

‘Not forgotten’

There have been lots of casualties in the fight against COVID-19 but, fortunately, Memorial Day was not one of them. While observances were muted in the Rockdale area, they were personal and much appreciated. Thanks for taking time to honor heroes.
