Dalton rescues me from fear of snakes

A few weeks ago when I was walking the dogs we ran across a big, fat black snake. I posted a picture of it on social media and about half misidentified it as venomous and the other half got it right. It was a plain bellied watersnake which are nonvenomous.

Do your part to control virus; don’t think ‘not me’

It is truly human nature to think that bad things are not going to happen to me. No doubt every young man who has gone off to war thinks that the other man will get killed, but not me. When we hear about someone else getting ill, invariably we think to ourselves, not me.

100 YEARS AGO.... Graduation was to be held in the City Hall Auditorium for the RHS graduating class of 1920. Members were S. B. Ford, Snively Riddle, Pearl Fletcher, Ivy Williams, Ellen Prewitt and Ophelia Estell.

We are supposed to make our living with words, but this is going to be so inadequate to describe the depth of the way we feel on so many levels. Two weeks ago, The Reporter asked for financial assistance from the public. That’s not something we relish having to do, but the time had come.

Never shop with women. Period. End of story.

What are you looking forward to doing the most? What have you not been able to do that you really miss because of the stay-athome order? I’d have to say eating out in restaurants is my number one. I know we can still order, and I do order, but it’s not the same.

Changes to state, county shelter-in-place order

This week Governor Abbott announced several changes to his executive orders. These changes now allow for our restaurants to open and serve the public, with no more than 25% capacity. Our libraries can open under limited circumstances and doctors, nurses and sole practitioners can return to work.

100 YEARS AGO.... Mrs. Roy Long threw a party for 30 of her friends at the Dixie Theater. The ladies watched the movie “Revelation,” featuring superstar Alla Nazimova, then adjourned to the theater alcove where an orchestra, rented for the occasion, “provided music and merry making.” Rev. W. A.

Things that keep us levelheaded

I guess we really haven’t made it through yet, but I was thinking of all the things that have helped me get through this virus mess. Don’t give me any flack about this but my number one thing is cigarettes.

First COVID-19 death in Milam County

On Monday we learned of our first COVID-19 death in Milam County. This was a Milam County resident under the age of 50. This case was not related to any of the Cameron Dairy Queen cases. The person had been transported to a Temple hospital late last week and then succumbed to the virus on Monday.
