Adventure in girls’ golf with Maddy and Aly

My latest sporting adventure was girls’ high school golf on the morning of Thursday, Feb. 27. I needed to get at least one good photo of either Whitley Boyd or Maddy Moody to use in the sports section. Whitley had a root canal so Miss Maddy Moody was the only Rockdale player playing golf that day.

100 YEARS AGO.... Cameron was to host the annual Milam County Interscholastic League academic meet with contests ranging from declamation and debate through spelling and essay. The Reporter noted soldiers from Fort Macintosh in Laredo had formed a baseball team and were looking for a game.

Daylight saving

Sunday is “spring forward” day as we enter Daylight Saving Time (DST)—and yes it is “saving” instead of savings—for another eight months. DST is one of those things we are so used to we’ve just accepted it. But those who do have an opinion usually have a strong one, pro or con.

There is no question that Milam County is growing. If you live in any of the cities of the County, you know there is a housing shortage. If you live in the country, you know that houses are cropping up all around. That is because new people are moving to the County as fast as they can get here.

Looking back...

100 YEARS AGO.... Rockdale volunteer firefighters didn’t have to hunt for an early morning fire call. It was the home of Fire Chief J. P. Perry. “I never realized until this morning how good it felt to hear that fire truck drive up,” Perry told The Reporter.

Good-bye Jeff

This is going to sound strange and maybe a little bit crazy. Football may have been the least of the ways Jeff Miller helped the Rockdale community. What? Isn’t he leaving as the winner of more football games than any RHS head coach in history (106)?
