Everyone needs to calm down

FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE Everyone needs to calm down and take a deep breath after the news from Sandow Lakes Ranch (SLR) two weeks ago. Everything is going to be fine. Anything that goes on at SLR (the former Alcoa property) has absolutely nothing to do with the City of Rockdale.

As most people in Milam County know, there has been a burn ban in place since July 14. When we put a burn ban in place, we don’t do it lightly. The first thing we do is consult with the nine Milam County fire chiefs and the head of the Fire Chief’s Association.

Country girls are handy to have around

FALLING FAR FROM THE TREE Country girls know how to get things done and everyone should have one on their payroll. Last Tuesday I needed to run to the convenience store and, very briefly, my car acted like it wasn’t going to start but it did.

Texas falls

Lawmakers could do more to counter slide in CNBC’s annual ranking Texans are known for braggadocio, and it used to be the friendly kind wrapped in a humility filled connection to gratitude for living here. But as great a state as we have, our bragging has gotten a bit stale.
