100 YEARS AGO… Mary Timmerman, wife of John Timmerman Sr., died at the family home in the Bushdale community, aged 76 years. Mrs. Timmerman, with her husband, were two of the oldest Milam County citizens, having settled here in 1872, before the town of Rockdale was established.

Ineed you to start thinking bigger. Last week when I asked for ideas on how to attract people to Rockdale, I guess I wasn’t clear enough. What I am talking about (and not just me, everyone in the Leadership Rockdale class is talking about it) is something that Rockdale will be known for.

Milam County Moot Court a big success

We just completed our fourth Milam County Moot Court competition. Milam County is the only county in Texas that produces and sponsors such an event. Moot Court requires each participant to make an oral argument regarding the legal issues of a fictitious case to a panel of three judges.

Grass roots

Veterans Day had its start in a small town from the heartland Care to guess in what city the movement which led to Veterans Day being celebrated had its origins? Washington, D. C.? New York City? Boston? No and you’d probably guess a while unless you already knew the answer. It’s Emporia, Kansas.

What can we do to draw folks to town?

We need a reason for people to visit Rockdale again and again. That was the consensus of Leadership Rockdale’s meeting last Thursday. And we need to have all of Rockdale’s organizations working together to achieve this goal. Maybe it’s a once-peryear thing?
