Milano Elementary School is hosting a Book Fair this week. Times are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday, Nov. 2, in the school cafeteria. Book fairs hold a special place in my heart and are some of my fondest memories from grade school.
The Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library just wrapped a busy month with three Thursday evening programs and a Friday genealogical “lock-in.”
Programs continue this month. At 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, Lynn Forney Young will present “100 Years Since the Armistice: Sharing the Story of World War I.
The public is invited to a 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 program in the Rockdale High School gym honoring all area veterans.
“Please join Rockdale ISD students, faculty, and staff in honoring and thanking all who have served in the United States Armed Forces,” Allen Sanders, RISD spokesman, said.
—HT Fitness of Cameron has recently become a member of the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center. Eric Puckett, store manager, snipped the ribbon at a ribbon-cutting held recently which also featured Rock-dale Chamber directors, officials, supporters and well-wishers.
—In their first halftime appearance since earning the UIL’s highest rating at marching contest, Director Adrian Acevedo’s Big Blue Band took the field in Cameron Friday night. Big Blue got Division I (Superior) ratings Oct. 20 in marching contest at Giddings.

THORNDALE—Thorn-dale High School student, Jacob Pedroza, will have a chance to earn additional funds for college in Texas Farm Bureau’s Free Enterprise Speech Contest.
District winners like Pedroza will compete in the state level competition at the TFB annual meeting in Corpus Christi Dec. 1-3.
—The 2018 Rockdale Fair’s home economics division drew lots of interested browsers and 466 entries last week in the New Salem HD clubhouse at Fair Park. That’s a substantial increase over the 374 entries in the 2017 Fair.
