Rockdale ISD announces the appointment of Candice Staton as the district’s new Director of School Safety, rei n forcing the district’s ongoing efforts to provide safe, secure and s u p p o r t ive learning environments for all students and staff.

At a specially called city council meeting on Monday night the council proposed adopting a tax rate of .782141 which is a 3.57 percent increase over last year and provides the city with an additional $150,000 in property taxes. The council will meet again on Aug. 10 at 5:30 p.m.

Backpack blessing highlights Rally Day Rockdale Peace Lutheran Church Rally Day will be at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 16, with special music and blessing of the backpacks during the church service for anyone starting back to school.

Three felony arrests made by Rockdale PD, one accident reported

Rockdale Police Officers made three felony arrests dur ing the past week including: • Gary Eugene Hobbs, 45, Rockdale, was arrested by Sgt. Lentz for theft of property ($2,500) with two or more previous convictions and possession of a controlled substance (under 28 grams).

FIRE CALLS

Rockdale VFD Responded to: • 310 Calhoun Drive for a power line on fire on July 29 at 9:11 a.m. • 711 Miller Street for a gas leak on July 29 at 1:48 p.m. • US 77 at FM 908 for a major two-vehicle accident with injuries on Aug. 1 at 1:32 p.m.

MILAM COUNTY JAIL LOG

Jail log lists all people charged with offenses through the county jail in Cameron. Charges may change during the process. Persons are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law. • Diyonte Wanya McCarty, 27, Cameron, criminal mischief ($100 to $750), released.
